An evening view of the old lighthouse with a sailboat ambling by gives an
indication of the sort of laid back pace of life in and around the small towns
that line the coasts of Lake Michigan in Wisconsin. As of September, 2003,
the Manitowoc Lighthouse was once again under construction.

Close by each breakwater lighthouse there is usually another light marker
that flashes green or red to guide vessels safely through the canal, or channel
of water, to the various docks and ports. Sometimes they are called range
lights, or range markers, and are much smaller than their brother lighthouses.
