Kenosha, a small town in Southern Wisconsin,
boasts some pretty magnificent lighthouse and harbor views.
Built in 1866 on Simmons Island, the old Southport Lighthouse in Kenosha stands
along the shoreline of Simmons Island Park. The tower is a 60-foot high round structure with several random windows. The lighthouse
became obsolete in 1906 when the North Pier Light began guiding ships into the harbor. The Southport Lighthouse is listed
on the national register of historic places. The house next to it is now a private residence.
This commemorative plaque and monument (above) sit
next to the old Southport Light-
house. It stands in memory of all those who served
and died there.
This is not the end, but merely a pause in the Lighthouse
Journey through Wisconsin. I will be shooting and adding more shots to this website throughtout the winter and spring of 2004.
Two more views of the Sturgeon Bay lighthouse bring to a temporary close my journey for now. I hope you have enjoyed
what you have seen thus far, and will look forward to more additions within the next few months.
Your eye chooses what you want
to see. Depending on what
you want to see is what you will see.
The world is full of images everywhere
you look. I hope I have given you images
that you have not seen, but now have
a better understanding and appreciation for our small world, because
of the art of photography. That would please me more than any dollar
price I could ever put on the places and images that I photograph.
